This is pleasant enough pop music with a strong American feel, designed for smooth late night FM radio formats and with a message for the heart. The fact that it's totally recorded on keyboard and computer, means that in places there are limitations in the sound, and the songs don't grab you by the throat as well as you'd hope. That aside, Paul has a pleasant voice and records pleasant pop songs. There's a nice version of "Joyful Joyful", that classic hymn, and there are plenty of "meaningful" inspirational ballads like "Mary's Song", "One In The Lord" and "Voice Of The Lord", but there isn't enough here to move me. The walking bluesy "Break Loose" is cute but just a little old-fashioned. These days, to make a successful pop album, you have to throw in some loops, give it some imagination and depth. Unfortunately, plain old-fashioned "nice" doesn't quite cut it, at least not to these English ears. This is a shame because the heart of this is spot on.
