I find it difficult not to compare the musical style and pure vocal tones of Scott Brenner to those of UK's Chris De Burgh - main difference being that the romantic expressions here relayed are addressed, not to a "lady in red" but to the Lord and Father of mankind. Originally released some years ago and subtitled 'Contemplative Worship For Your Quiet Time", these gentle and graceful, unhurried ballads come with the merest of accompaniment (usually no more than acoustic guitar, a touch of cello and Brenner's delicate piano). Rising within this uncluttered setting appears Brenner's warm, soothing vocals - providing a sensitive, heart-felt outlet to his own melodic, self-penned tunes. The effect is virtually guaranteed - calming, meditative, irresistibly worshipful, giving sure conviction that such music is indeed Spirit-inspired. If there's any criticism, it's that the flow of worship is so seamless as to allow little distinction between tracks. Nevertheless, this is a rare disc that draws your attention immediately Godward and encourages you to bask indefinitely in God's rich, gracious presence. I'm doing so now.
