After splitting up a few years back, it's good to see singer Leigh Nash and guitarist Matt Slocum, always the nucleus of Sixpence, working together again. The combination of their talents was always superior to their individual activities so welcome back Sixpence None The Richer. This time out they re-appear in an understated fashion with this download only EP. Immediately recognisable as Sixpence from the style and distinctive voice, "Amazing Grace" is a good poppy opener. "Around" is a swirling atmospheric ethereal success with glimmering guitar and a harp-like insistent music figure throughout. "My Dear Machine" sees the electric guitars well and truly plugged in for a more brooding song and "Sooner Or Later" has one of those great Leigh Nash vocals. Overall this is all good and it's fab to have the band back but it feels like a warm up rather than the real event as the band get back into the groove of creating together. I anticipate that there is much better waiting for us around the corner.
