True longevity in the music biz is a rarity. The Chuck Wagon Gang suggest a real love of making music and dedication to glorifying God. The band is, in a manner reminiscent of Dr Who, in its third regeneration, having undergone numerous changes in personnel, tracing its history back to the 1930s. The current members - Shaye Truax (great granddaughter of the CWG founder), Melissa Kemper (owner of a crystal clear soprano voice), Dave Emery and Ronnie Page seem content with carrying on the well established tradition, building deliciously rich yet simple layers of harmony over the most unhurried and laid back of arrangements. This is in keeping with the founder's admonition to "sing the old songs and sing 'em the way I taught you." This they will no doubt continue doing, serving with simple humility in these two minute gospel classics. You have to ask how long that might be, however. I doubt this release will win them many new fans, but you get the feeling that that matters not a jot. Four part harmony giving praise to God - a gentle reminder that even the most creative and cutting edge bands stand on the shoulders of giants.
