Are The Call still in existence or have Michael Been and his compatriots decided to call it a day after being dropped by their record company? As we rock fans on the other side of the water ponder that question, maybe we should checkout the new bands doing The Call/Simple Minds style of BIG rock where vistas of sound and anthemic melodies take the listener onward and upwards. The Walter-Eugenes are vocalist/Lyricist Walter Paul Robinette and musician/composer Rick Eugene May and their sound is thrilling and dense while their lyrics take in issues like concern for the lost ("Thousand Years"), the need to return to simple faith ("Back To The Basics") and the lust for power ("What's Going On") are equally insightful. A fine debut from an exciting new band.
