William Walton did not write a great deal of choral music: about 90 minutes worth - just too much to squeeze into a single disc. What we have here are all the important pieces with several curiosities, including three versions of "A Litany", allowing us to hear how the composer matured over the years. The opening "A Queen's Fanfare", played by The Wallace Collection, sets the scene and leads dramatically into the "Coronation Te Deum". Polyphony, directed by Stephen Layton, do full justice to the music. The recording took place in Hereford Cathedral and sounds splendid.
