Donnie McClurkin: Gospel star with a Pastor's heart

Wednesday 30th June 2004

American gospel star DONNIE McCLURKIN spoke to Mike Rimmer about his decision to give up gospel music to become a church pastor and his personal battle with homosexuality.

Donnie McClurkin: Gospel star with a Pastor's heart

Donnie McClurkin is back in the UK performing live with Byron Cage and Fred Hammond. In a sharp suit, he takes the stage and enjoys the adulation of gospel fans. Since the 'Live In London' album, his career has shot through the roof. It's ironic then that he is beginning to share that his days in gospel music are numbered. Having been called to pastor a church in New York in 2001, he is planning on retiring from gospel music at the beginning of 2007.

When it comes to the increasing effectiveness of his ministry in music, it seems that it has only been since he decided to pursue his calling as a pastor that his music has connected with a bigger audience. Is this a coincidence? "It happened right after 'Live In London' came out in 2000. I started pastoring in 2001. In the industry's view, it was the worst timing! Because now you're at the pinnacle and to start pastoring means it cuts right into everything that you've worked so hard to do, when that was your only purpose. But it was all a part of bringing me to this place of pastoring. It's easy to let go of the singing for me and to be pastoring because that's who I am. It's the people, God's called me to minister to his people and they are important to him. The singing is secondary."

Moving from music ministry to pastoring his church is going to be a big step for Donnie McClurkin. Surely he is going to have some regrets. "It's been bittersweet," he shares openly. "Me and Kirk Franklin sit and talk about it. He's like, 'Man, what you go and do that for?!' I said, 'Man, I have no choice. I have to go on to be who I'm called to be.' It served its purpose, it got the attention of the secular world and it's made me pastor to some of the greatest people. People like Beyonce, Missy Elliott and Star Jones, even though they don't go to our church, unless they come to New York. Now everybody calls me 'pastor'. The secular world calls me 'pastor'. I'm like, 'Lord, whoever thought that this would happen?!' But I understand now, this is who he's called me to be. Music is what I did and what I do but my being is in ministry. You've got to let go of one in order to move into the next place of your life. You can't hold onto one with regrets. You've got to let it go. I told Kirk it's going to be bittersweet because all of my friends are in the music industry, CeCe and Marvin Winans and BeBe and Yolanda, Kirk.all of them. We're all brothers and sisters. Michael W Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman.it's going to be hard because I love them. But the joy comes when I stand before the congregation that God has placed me as pastor over, and see the lives changing, and see the lives growing, and seeing the babies being born and the young people growing up in the ministry, you know? That, I can't get when I am out on stage."

Donnie's style of pastoring is interesting because he's a man who has had struggles and faced difficulties and won through. It's almost as though God has allowed him to go through hard times in order that he might now be equipped to pass on the comfort he has personally received directly from God. He agrees, "God has allowed me and others to go through things, uniquely our own, knowing that there will be people that the testimony will reach, that are going through the same exact thing or can relate to it. Others may not be going through the identical thing but it will relate to their situation regardless. People gravitate more quickly to people who show them their wounds, than to those to who just preach at them. My thing is, if I want to get into their heart I've got to show them where I've been. I've got to show them that I am not exempt from problems and struggles just like anybody else. If it weren't for God, I wouldn't be here, I would be lost. So what I've got to do is open myself up and become vulnerable to the people that I preach to, knowing that it does have its down sides and it does have its backlashes. But it's worth it to see people's lives changed."

Donnie's own story was first told in his book Eternal Victim, Eternal Victor where he chose to go on record and tell the truth about some of the dysfunction in his family, the abuse he received and his own honest struggles with homosexuality. The book was a raw, bare account of some experiences that were taboo subjects amongst Christians and yet Pastor McClurkin chose to go on record. He remembers, "It was quite difficult because in America, I'm not sure about outside of America but we have a very strong gay activist community. They took offence at the book in many ways. Then we've got a lot of people who in the church, are worried about it because it's such a taboo issue and we sweep these things under the table. So from both ends, I was getting flak."

His motivations for writing the book and sharing his experiences are revealed as we sit and chat about the issues. He shares, "But then you've got a bunch of young and old people who have gone through the same thing secretly and haven't been able to say anything to anyone; they're just looking for an outlet. And that's the benefit of it, when I can see them come to me like Nicodemus came to Jesus by night. I tell you, married men, married women, with children and families, come and tell me 'This is what I'm going through now. How do I get out of it? What do I do?' And I pray about it and I give them the council of God. It serves its purpose but I guess there's a price that goes along with it."

To state it simply, Donnie McClurkin was sexually abused as a child. He was raped by a male relative and then raped again by that relative's son. Donnie struggled for 20 years with homosexuality and then God delivered him. But how did that deliverance take place? The answer is simple and he explains, "The deliverance took place by me finally realising that I'm not who my desires say that I am. Let me put this down for the record, you're about one of the first ones that I'm saying this to; the struggle's still not over, you know? Just because God delivers you doesn't mean that the temptations don't come back and people need to realise that. It is not odd or strange for the very thing God has delivered you from to come back to see if everything's still cool, you know? I still have to fight and it seems like the more I preach about it, the more people try to test it. But you've still got to remain and you got to keep yourself surrounded with people who will keep you accountable. Those things are part of the ongoing healing and deliverance. And just like everyone has to deal with whatever dark secrets and demons that they have to deal with, I'm just more and more vocal and a little more transparent with it."

He continues to share about the stages of deliverance. "It came about because first of all I admitted it and took off all of the masks, opened up every closet and said 'This is the truth of what happened.' My mom was totally amazed, my family was totally shocked. But then I wanted to deal with it because this is what I went through. This is what I struggled with and still have to struggle with. I told them I was going to be needing support, or they could get out of the way; one of the two. Because I'm not stopping, I'm going forward. And they've been there. So every attack, they've been there. They've understood everything and THAT helped in my deliverance. Having the 'base' behind me to keep me strong. Then, the more you see people delivered, that strengthens you in your deliverance. The more you testify and see the few respond, that enables you to realise what I'm here for!"

For years there have been rumours of homosexuality amongst American gospel artists and the prevailing cover-up culture that does not expose the sin within the industry. Gospel artist Carlton Pearson recently went on record with his comments on the gay issue which contradicted the generally held evangelical perspective that homosexual activity goes against basic Bible truth. Donnie believes that gospel musicians have a responsibility to the public. He explains, "The general public see us as 'the ministers'. They see us as the authorities. They know that we should not be singing about anything that we don't believe. We shouldn't be espousing anything that we're not ready to live. So they're believing that what we're saying, we live. Sometimes unfortunately, it is just the opposite."

He continues, "You spoke about Carlton Pearson, it's a shame that these things take place. A man who once preached the truth now turns around and denounces the things that he once preached so fervently, to become popular. And thus hurts and damages people in the interim. But I know my calling and I have to keep strong. The bottom line is, if I mess up tomorrow and if I'm out in the lifestyle and I'm totally bankrupt of all my morality.I would be the first one to tell them 'Don't follow me. I'm wrong, God is right.' But that's not going to happen!" he laughs.

McClurkin shares honestly about his feelings, "You can't talk about the redeeming and saving power of Jesus Christ when you're still living in the abominable. I know I may get into trouble with some who may think that I am a little too strong saying that homosexuality is abominable but there's a Bible that I have got to concur with. I've got to agree with it. Not to the slighting of those that are involved but to the pulling down and destroying of the thing that they're involved in. We can't kill the people, the people are too precious to God. Everyone is too important to God and God does not dispose of people!"

The compassion of a pastor is revealed as McClurkin shares his thoughts about those caught up in a gay lifestyle. He refuses to be condemning of those who are homosexual but rather seeks to separate the sinner from the sin. "We make our own choices," he says. "Heaven or hell is our choice but God is ever extending his hand and he's ever-loving. It's time for Christians to start doing the same! The bottom line is we've been too hard, we've been too absolutely dogmatically ignorant. These are situations in people's lives, this is what people are born into. I don't believe that they're born that way but they're born into these things. And we've got to address them and we've got to love them, we've got to nurture them and we've got to embrace them. And we can't judge them because the end of the story is not written yet!"

It often seems that in the church, when it comes to the gay issue, Christians struggle to come up with a compassionate response but McClurkin thinks it's time to change. "We do it with the drug addict! We do it with the alcoholic! So why can we not do it with those who have sexual differences? Pull them in, embrace them, love them. Give them the truth of God with the love of God and watch people's lives change. I see it happen all the time. I've got people in the church that I'm still working with who are young and old. They'll say, 'Pastor, it's been a whole month, nothing's happened!' And I tell them it's good and to not even worry about counting the days, take one day at a time. Love God, every day fall more in love with God and you'll find these things falling off of you. And that's how we do it, we do it one day at a time and increase our intimacy with Jesus Christ and we see him change our nature, realigning our passions." CR

Jehovah Rohi bless you richly Pastor Mc Clurkin. I must admit I have been one confused little rebellious lamb lately. And after loving your Ministry for such a long time, and going through so many experiences that surrounded you - I started for a short while, to despise the sound of your vioce, because God says one thing, and you are saying another.
However I have made it to December of 2007 by the Grace of God, thanking God mainly for sound mind at this point, knowing that I know that The Lord over all has a Divine Role for His own to play, and HE WILL NOT FAIL - It's just not possible. I bought a $600.00 ticket to attend your concert in Trinidad, but it was not meant to be, as the concert was postponed, and when the concert did happen I missed the advertisement, and was not in the country.
I will always remember though how you looked at me when we spoke face to face at Trinidad Hilton. Thank you for your words of comfort. Until we meet again - I AM PERFECTING FAITH.

I enjoyed the article about Pastor McClurkin. It is such a pleasure to hear the truth. In these days and times we must tell the the unadultered truth. Jesus is soon to return and there is no time for playing. There never was time for playing but we will have to answer to God for every idle thought and deed. It is so important to tell people what is going to help them. God bless you Pastor Donnie!

What's up girl,
thanking God for you, and praying that you posses that perfect faith needed to please God.
I read your comment, an now dawned on me that it was not important to me to read the story on Pastor Mc Clurkin, as God is not ever finished with any of His children, and I have this report from Abba Father, that simply tells me that I don't need to read man's (The Pastor's) unfinished report.
I already know that Pastor Mc Cklurkin was set up by God to tell the world his testimony,(what he knows about himself) so others can be blessed by the blessing they give, and those who choose to curse this man of God, puts a curse on themselves. It's a God set up.
So stay blessed! And for those who do not understand what God is doing with Pastor Mc Clurkin-
It would be better for you to stay QUIET!

Your story speaks directly into my situation. I am struggling with my sexuality as well. God has told me that I will overcome it, but a lot of times I get discouraged. God too has blessed me with a passion for music I sing, play piano and hopefully one day I will be blessed to record my own album and to minister to other people. One day I would personally like to talk to you so that you can minister to me. I sure could use an encouraging word. If God did it for you, I know he will do it for me. I will never give up. We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus. God Bless.

Pastor McClurkin, when i read your story, u remind me of King David, a man with many defects&mistakes, yet the LORD called him, ''a man after mine heart'', i reconed because when David realised his defects he wasted no time in repenting b4 GOD bout it&that made him a man after GOD's heart, his humility&repentant heart b4 GOD. To me you are a man of character, with the same calibre of King David's, that is whom i consider a role model, a man who lives in the fear of GOD & love 4 JESUS! u r a remarkable MAN, keep on keeping on & stand4CHRIST standing immovable:-)

Where did you find this story of pastor Donnie having a son? It is hopeless for a pastor who fill himself with gossips and lies instead of the words of God. Get the Real Life!

This is a lie from the devil about pastor Donnie McClurkin having a child out of wedlock. Pastor Donnie McClurkin does not have a son so stop spreading this lie. It is not true that pastor Donnie McClurkin have a child or a son out of wedlock. Pastor Donnie McClurkin is a faithful servant and annointed man of God that God is using powerfully and greatly in the whole world to bless us and for the glory of God. So to save souls for the kingdom of God. The Lord says no weapons formed against pastor Donnie McClurkin and the children of God shall prosper and every tongue that shall rise up against us in judgement shall be condemned. The Lord says I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. So our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, in Jesus name, Amen. And Father God continue to use your servant and son Pastor Donnie McClurkin forevermore to bless us for your glory, in jesus name, Amen. To you Oh God be all the glory, thanks, praise, worship, and honour forevermore, Amen. God bless you Pastor Donnie McClurkin.

Pastor Donnie does have a son which I heard him acknowledge at the Mt Airy Church of God in Christ at their Men's Conference in 9/05. Did you ever think that perhaps he didn't acknowledge it before then do to his wanting to protect that innocent child from the public? Everyone knows how transparent Pastor Donnie is about his life, which has helped others recognize that God does not hate the sinner, but the sin that is within him or her. We should not condemn people because they have sinned, but instead pray for their deliverance as well as encourage them to look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith for the strenght and the power to overcome whatever sins are in their lives. Afterall, according to the bible, sin separates us from an holy and awesome God. That SIN can be anything such as fornication, adultery, overeating, lying, gossiping, stealing, robbing God of His tithes & offering, etc. So my dear christian community, let's not focus on the type of sin, but the fact that we have transgressed God's holy ordinance(the Ten Commandments). For God has clearly stated that no sin shall be a part of his eternal glorious kingdom which is soon to come. It's all about a relationship, with Jesus of course. When one makes a committment to serve Him all the way, that's when one becomes victorious and obtains the strenght to live holy for the Lord says to be holy even as He is holy. God bless!

As a former fan of your work, you disgust me. How DARE you speak and sing of God's love one minute and call ME and abomination the next? One day you will learn that hating me and other proud, successful Black (and other) Gay men like myself WON'T MAKE YOU STRAIGHT! Stop hating yourself, Donnie, and then -- ONLY then -- will you have even a hope of knowing God's love. I pity you, but you will NOT demean me.

Reply by Lisa in PA @ 11:08 on Sep 2 2006

David...Get a grip! Read what Donnie said..He spoke truth as does the BIBLE. The act of homosexuality is an ABOMINATION!..Get in touch with yourself. Donnie
is fine. He admits that you and those like you need to be loved and embraced until you overcome. Don't hate the player...Hate your game! Donnie is God's chosen. You are too..You've got to surrender! Peace!

David,
It is our mandate as ministers of the gospel to tell you the truth.
God still loves you but your choice to be gay is still wrong.
Pastor Donnie does not hate you.
He has been delivered and this is his stand.
My brother was black, successful and gay. Today all the money he made is not important.
We buried him behind our family church and the death certificate read CAUSE OF DEATH: AIDS
Do you have to be gay to have aids? No! I just shared my brothers story and our loss.
Great article Pastor Donnie and as always "I Love Ya"

David,

I will not condemn you but homosexuality is wrong. I would like to tell you that the bible says in the book of Genesis 19: vs4-vs11 & vs16-vs25 Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed.

This is because God could not stand this sin. Man was created for woman and not man for man or woman for woman.

May the good Lord touch you and change and save you.

God bless you

Pastor, I want to commend you on spreding the gospel(the true), God is a God that he can not lie and it's evident that he has did a wonder work in you. I also have a daughter that is dealing with issue and I'm standing on God's promise I know that she'll be delivered in God's time. But may God continue to bless you and your ministry. I pray that more ministers would preach the true and not their true. The word can't return void.

I have been interceding for you my dear brother (Donnie ) since 1998. One night you came to TBN in Hendersonville, I had plan to commit sucide, I was very depressed but you sang Stand in your lime green suit and saved my life 'one more day'. DONNIE MCCLURKIN

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK GOD TO TAKE THAT TEMPTATION AWAY FROM YOU AND HE WILL DO IT IF YOU ONLY BELIEVE, WHY ALLOW YOURSELF TO GO THRU THAT WHEN YOU KNOW THAT GOD CAN TAKE IT AWAY ITS NOT THAT HARD ITS ALL UP TO YOU IF YOU DONT WANT TO THAT MEANS YOU STILL WANT TO BE WITH A MAN, YES YOU SAID GOD CHANGE YOU AND HE HAD DELIVER YOU FROM HOMOSEXUALLITY BUT YET YOU ARE BEING TEMPTED, I MEAN WHATS UP WITH THAT? JUST PRAY GOD BLESS YOU

Reply by Janet Irons in Lewisville Texas @ 20:06 on Jan 28 2007

Excuse me sister, but with all due respect, have you ever been delivered and set free from anything???..... the sin is not in the temptation, it is in yielding to that temptation that we sin. Wherever we come from or the very thing that God has deliverered us from Satan will always bring it back around to tempt us!!
Pastor Donnie you keep on being real for us and for yourself!! We love you and God loves you best!!

Reply by Work in progress in Trinidad @ 22:12 on Jun 11 2008

The sin is not the temptation. It is when we give into it. The bible says that when a demon leaves a house it goes roaming then returns to the house and if the house is empty it brings back demons worse than itself to inhabit it. This tells us that Satan and his demons DO check back on us. Obviously Satan would try to tempt us with the things that easily beset us. This was also something imposed upon Pastor Donnie, so there is also shame, guilt, anger etc that he would have had to overcome. What a mighty testimony he has!! Good for him. God said resist the devil and he will flee. He never said the devil/temptation won't come.
Good for you Pastor Donnie!!!

Pastor Donnie, Greetings in the Name of the Lord.

We all love your songs around the world; we believe you are a devoted and courageous man of God. The words of your songs penetrate heart.
You gave us your testimony, your honesty and simplicity are great. It is encouraging and restoring for people like me who went also through dramatic situations as rapes, abuses, victim of witchcraft, and broken family.
We hear about you in English countries of Africa such as Nigeria, but you have never been in French speaking countries. We feel like forgotten pastor Donnie, we need you too!!!

Posted by Janet Irons in Lewisville Texas @ 20:12 on Jan 25 2007

Pastor Donnie!!! I can not even begin to tell you how you have been a blessing to me in my life!! I am a woman who has been seared from my conscious with God every since about age 8. I wasn't physically introduced to the lifestyle until age 18. I grew up in a God fearing , Pentecostal Holiness home. My Mother being the pastor of the church!! I LOVED church, but because of my music!! I was blessed with the gift, to play the drums and then the keys!!! But in my free time the devil toyed with my mind!! So for 20 years now I have been actively "in the life". I was saved in 1990, and then I backslid, then I was saved again in 2005!! This time not to ever let go of his hand, because of people like you that are teaching the word and showing me how to trust and rely on Him!! I know that my total deliverance will come, I just thank God for you!! So PLEASE dont stop teaching the Word. I hope to one day visit your church and meet you in person. You are such an inspiration in my life!! You know,..... you hear preachers preaching against homosexuality all the time, but when it comes from one who has been there!!!!, and KNOWS OUR STRUGGLE!!!................ It makes all the difference!!!
Thank you Donnie!!
Pray for me as I continue to pray for you!!!!
Enjoy your blessings!!!

Well......................while your story was very inspirational, I must say that for many homosexuals and bisexuals it is not a choice to pick their sexuality and by saying that; you just perpetuate the stereotype and condone hate. Which i am sure is not the christian way. I pretty sure the bible teaches love.

Reply by Loyiso in Pretoria, South Africa @ 11:45 on Apr 2 2007

Nigel

Stop listening selectively. Hearing what you want to hear won't do you any good. You read the story and the pastor states that we as christians we must stop discrimainating against gays as they need our help.
Your problem is that you want him to say, there is nothing wrong with being gay you have to accept your sexuality and all those things. My dear being gay is demonic and GOD does not aprove PERIOD. Stop being in denial and start looking for help.

Posted by Dee in Michigan @ 21:35 on Feb 28 2007

Niegel, think about what you are saying. You my friend are sowing discord among the people who need to know Jesus. Perhaps homosexuals and bisexual believe their born that way, BUT remember Jesus Christ died so that we can be born again. We all need to pray and encourage one another to become more Christ like.

While God was pruning me, He was also pruning Pastor Mc Clurkin. Be anxious for nothing! The Bible comforts His chosen ones. God has no trouble getting whatever He has to do -done. IT IS FINISHED!

I believe donnie has come a long way. his music has blessed my life so much. I love his ministry however someone say it is time for him to be married, but its not easy as u might say he has to seek god to give him a wife that will truly understand his ministry and what he has been through. I pray that he will find that person soon.

Reply by Monique in Trinidad @ 16:06 on Feb 22 2008

Hi Melisha,
You know something, As Our Father in Heaven already knows who is going to be the wife of Pastor Donnie Mc C'lurkin, what troubles many is that we hope, we pray, we doubt, we wait. Human nature -we want to know and we want to see.
We are all guilty of speculating at times.
Just keep trusting that Jesus is so, so good at what He does, and be comforted.

The Lord graced me with a little wisdom recently.
Look at David, a man after God's heart. God knew everything concerning David-King after Saul's reign.
David lusted after what was not his own, worked mischief to his shame, practically murdered Babsheba's husband. But - when one is chosen by Jehovah God, no one and nothing can change His mind. And you know know what to, we have to be careful what we say, and pray to... that we do not cross the path of God's chosen;( like Babsheba's husband- still proved to be righteous as he refused to sleep in his home as his men remained in battle)

We need not hope when we serve The Almighty God who has and will never fail His children.
Almighty God reveals stuff to one that He knows that He can trust with TROUBLE.
Be careful how you treat the simple things/people that cross your path- they may hold your future in his/her hands.
BE BLESSED!

Deemene,
I know my move to respond to your comment today comes late to you, but still is God's timing, as the Lord touched my heart to write on the topic you touched on.
I'm sure by now you realize there is no email to get for Pastor Mc Clurkin, and if by chance you were to get an email, you would still not get any reply.
Example: Have you seen any reply to any of these comments by Pastor Mc Clurkin here. NOOOOOOOOO!
My experience- I am one radical believer in Christ, and at one time I myself wanted an email for Pastor Mc Clurkin. I don't know why my Heavenly Father allows me to get away with some of the most crazy stunts , as I tried to contact my dear brother in The Lord; in such a way that I can honestly say that I stalked the man of God, for which I have already REPENTED.
But you know what God did for me, instead of just giving, God set me up to meet this precious man of God face to face by His(GOD) rules and in His Time. All my thoughts became scambled eggs. Imagine -a man could still have that efect on me. For me that had to be a divine reaction, as pain pushed me into giving Jesus my ALL.
So I'll tell you the same thing Jesus told me. All good things come from Jesus. You want to show how grateful you are, Worship, praise and glorify the one who sent Pastor Mc Clurkin. Jesus deserves All the Glory. And you know what, thank God you need no email to talk to to Jesus. Now access to Jesus! AMEN!
Jesus does want you to be distracted by the one whom He chose to use to set you free.
Why does every one want more and more of this man? I had to check myself as I had made him into my God at one time.
One day I will tell you the whole story!
Love Ya!

Actually this is to In Love - God's Love in Trinidad,

I agree with you wholeheartedly!!! I had to come to the realization that I had made Pastor McClurkin a type of god. I love the Lord dearly, but I too found myself becoming a sort of stalker. Anytime he was near to my residence, Northern California, I had to be there. I remember a time when I told myself I was not going to hear him speak, and I thought it would be easy, but the night that he arrived I found myself thinking should I break my vow that I'd made to myself and go. Thank God I didn't I stayed home. I can now say by the grace of God I once again have things in the right perspective. The LORD is back on the throne like HE should be. God bless Pastor McC for being available to be used by God, but we must always remember he is not GOD!

The Living Word of God is all you will ever need to guide that young man to Jesus. If you have faith, and I have faith- we make two; where two or more are gathered(in righteousness) agreeing on anything, His will be done by my Father in Heaven. Every time you see that young man why not encourage him through a bible scripture, showing him that you have faith that he is going to get there.

Here is a good place to begin- 'JESUS WAS WOUNDED FOR YOUR TRANGRESSIONS, JESUS WAS BRUISED FOR YOUR INIQUITIES, THE CHASTISEMENT OF YOUR PEACE WAS UPON HIM(JESUS), AND WITH JESUS CHRIST STRIPES, WITH EVERY ONE OF HIS STRIPES- YOU ARE HEALED!

Jesus is expecting you to representing well!

Thank you. I appreciate this commentary. As a Christian heterosexual female who loves God and loves others, it is affirming to read Donnie's comments on the way we should treat those who struggle with homosexuality. While this passage still does not completely settle in my mind whether homosexuality is a choice (I bend toward the notion that homosexuality itself may not be a choice - just as many mental, physical, and psychological states of being are not choices -, but acting on homosexual feelings is indeed a choice and acting on those feelings is the real sin the bible addresses), I do think it is important that we continue this conversation as a larger discussion in the body of Christ. We cannot risk the spiritual downfall of any of our brothers and sisters because we choose not to embrace, encourage, love, and educate them - regardless of who they are and where they are in this life's journey. I have too often witnessed Christians being a poor witness to others by treating people badly because of thier sexual orientation. I have too often witnessed people who identify as gay, lesbian, or transgendered turn away from the church and seek other outlets for "spiritual expression" due to the intolerance of church folk. I think we should learn to focus our energies on addressing the sin instead of attacking the “sinners” (as all of us if you will remember are sinners). Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

I have just watched the Trumpet Awards and was so touched by what Pastor McClurkin has experienced. I understand nothing can occur in this life without the permission of God. Pastor McClurkin stated through his trials and tribulations he is able to help others. Wow this is so humble. One willing to assist those with their hurt so that they too can be healed. To God be the glory.

I understand Pastor McClurkin has to do the will of God, but I will missed your heavenly voice in song. God always knows what's best for us. Do will of God as a good solider. One day you will be rewarded for your labor.

For most homosexuals, homosexuality like heterosexuality is genetic and not a choice. Just as a heterosexual coming in to puberty doesn't say to him/herself "Let's see, what am I going to chose to be attracted to - boys or girls?", neither does a homosexual. It is just a "natural" feeling. Now, in Donnie's case, he was sexually abused by pedophiles. That made sex confusing for him. Just a the boys who were sexually abused by priests, he may not be a homosexual. However, science is strongly leaning toward the thinking that homosexuality is determined in the womb. Face it, nature is not black and white. There are babies born every year with sex organs of both male and female (hermaphrodites). In most of these cases, the physician determines which sex they should be. Sexuality is complex, we don't know enough yet about the science of how sexuality is determined, but science leans toward the thinking that homosexuality is genetic.

Blabbertruth,
Are you suggesting that we believe scientists who are mortal, finite, humans prone to error over God who is eternal, infinite, omnipotent and omniscient?

What a choice!

Your story is very touching. We all have some kind of struggle. I have been hiding mines for years and years and years. I have been molested by 4 different people-starting at 9 years old and it affected me badly, but God has me in my healing stages. I have forgiven all of them late last year 2006 and i'm breaking out of my shell, the closet, the walls and getting to know the true me!!! Thank God for Jesus!!!

Pastor McClurkin
Your story is a true miracle from God and it makes me smile everytime I think about it. I have two uncles who were bi-sexual and eventually turned totally gay (one of whom died from complications of AIDS while I was deployed to Iraq 2003). I myself am a living miracle and every chance I get I share my story to help others overcome, I am currently working on writing a book about my life as a way of reaching the world and to show single parents that they can make it. I believe the more you expose the secrets they more the devil is defeated in your life and others who may be struggling with the same strongholds. May God bless you for all that you are doing for his kingdom!

I just want to say to those who have made negative comment about pastor donnie or any brother and sister in christ. he who is without sin cast the 1st stone. on 7/6/07 i was bless to see donnie in Oakland, Ca and i tell he blessed my soul with history lesson regarding rahab and then shared with us his testimony, He has confessed, to God and to God's people. now since this has came out and since he is struggling like the rest of us that have something we are struggling with since we are brother in sister through christ then pray for one another, he shared with us his problem pray for his soul to be healed. my question is what is it that you are struggling with so i can pray for you. I have a whole list. and sometimes my thoughts get me in trouble what about you? I am a known gospel sing in the town that i lived in. and a bible scholar and i am tempted what about you. I have faith in God and i have been through the ringer been deliver from drugs, over 25 years ago. but still tempted but i want let go, but doing that time somebody prayed for me. lets pray for one another. don't judge him pray for his soul.

You gave me the biggest hug and were so humble. Your honesty is what makes satin bleed, also your amazing worship to our incredible Savior makes the devil run. People are refreshed with the presence of God through your precious testimony and that God given voice and worship. I pray in Jesus name that you would continue to tear down the enemies camp, with Pastoring, Fathering, Mentoring and Singing. I truely appreciate you and know one day we will be close friends! I will continue to intercede for you! Sincerely, Melanie

The Bible says, the Living Word of God- that death and life lies in the power of the tongue. You want something, ask Jesus for it, believe that you have recieved it and keep thanking the Lord for it as if you have gotten it already. Repent now for such negative words spoken, and don't you ever speak of your self as though you are not worthy of standing in another man's presence. All that negative stuff needs to be flushed out of your mind. You have not because you ask not! And if you ask with wrong intentions you will not recieve . If it is your hearts desire for you to do any thing that brings glory to the One Lord, I am agreeing with you in prayer In The Name of Jesus. Now Believe! Remember....NO~! can also be an answer as The Lord knows your heart.

My best friend is gay and i consider myself on the way to obtaining a more intimate relationship with God. I love him soooo much and i don't want to every not have him in my life is it possible for me to continue our friendship? Will he change?

Reply by Monique in Trinidad @ 20:00 on Dec 6 2007

Hi Niki, I read note and I am proud of you - I'm sure Jesus is to, as you seek a more intimate relationship with Him(Jehovah God). Nothing is wrong with loving your friend, just make sure that your love does not go against the righteousness of God, and remember too that God is a Jealous God, that means don't ever love anything more than Him.
Now if your friend still is at the point he is on the gay train, and Jesus is calling you, prepare yourself for that seperation that will naturally bring pain that will push you into the arms of your Heavenly Father.
I myself am asking the Lord to heal my heart and mind of things I will never understand as I do love someone who insist he is going in his own destructive direction, but if we love them soooo much, let us both make up in our minds to be Lights for Christ, and when they see us from their extreme darkness- that they will walk toward THE LIGHT. Let's continue to press forward, pray and know that God knows what He is doing. REMEMBER - THE DEVIL IS A LIAR! Guard your heart- know who deserves ALL your love. Your sister who is coming out of PAIN, Monique.

pastor, it's very touching what you have gone through, but am glad that you've ysed that as a stepping to greater success that GOD has elavated you to. i also have been struggling with myself. i lost my parents at a very young stage ( father in '93, mother@16). back then i thought that it was over for me but God knew that it was just the begining. as Christ said in the crossed"it is finished", He really meant that it was the begining for us Christians to light up this world with the anointing that the Lord has anointed us with. av been inolved with a youth group for the past 10 years and 2 years there was a split up due to that one of the leaders ssaid that he was now going to full time ministry. there was a bitter tension such that the group ended up being divided into two and since then many of us lost it but yet tried to hold on to Christ though it seemed like a hard battle to fight than previously. some ended up going back to the circular world and up till this day they are lost from the WAY. please pray for me so that i can be strong in coming back and fighting what ever circumstances that i encounter along the way, and that the group can re-unite and light the country like never before.

thank your

Good Day Pastor Donnie.

I just have to comment on the concert you held in South Africa in August 7-11 specifically the one at the Sandton Convention Centre (that was the one i attended).
You were a blessing and the love you have for people of different nations is just undiscribable.
You touch lives by just ministering in song alone and that i must say is a gift from GOD.
Stay blessed !!!!!

I did not know much about your music, but I went to your concert in Johannesburg, I was touched. The following day you were gonna preach, and something pressured me to go and listen to your sermon. The only way to describe it is that it was amazing. I have been to different churches but not heard anyone preaching the truth as you did that day. I am a very calm person but that day I was excited, actually you validated my beliefs of how to live your life Christ -like. Now I am a great fan of yours, thanks God for people like you!

Bless you pastor,
I just wanted to let you know that most of your struggles will be pacified when you connect with the wife God has cultivated for you. She will wait for you because she has no choice. She was created for you. Everything she ever went through in her life has prepared her for this assignment. To walk with you and to change a world. You both share the same passions, because God has intended it to be this way. Pastor Mcclurkin you are the blessing to the world. I thank God for you and your heart. Please continue to believe God for His best because thats what He has for you. She is not just a woman of God thats beautiful in the inside but shes beautiful even on the outside. Please don't settle because God has an awesome plan for the marriage its not about you or her although you both will be happy, its all about ministry.

In His care,
Lonnce Prayer

Reading what The Lord has planted on your heart, made every hair on my body raise, and tears ran down my eyes, as only Jesus and I knows what I am going through at present. Maintaining perfect faith when the Lord has chosen you alone to believe well in someone or something can break your heart when the rest of the world doubts you. Thank you for your words of comfort and confirmation.

You have to proclaim what God has spoken over your life and don't waver, though it may tarry wait on God. By His stripes you are Healed even in that struggle of homosexuality. I thank God for you being in the Kingdom of God.Keep pressing and don't give up. Be blessed.

Reply by JOY OTOO in LONDON, ENGLAND @ 20:30 on Nov 24 2007

Dear brother Rodney, when it comes to any form of temptation, prayer is an absolute must but you must also take practical steps to overcome it. First of all dont create memories with anyone you may be tempted by, what i mean is no telephone calls that you can reminisce about, no "supposed innocent" meetings that you can think about when you are alone and daydreaming and dont go to places where you know without a shadow of a doubt that there will be someone there to tempt you. Always be HONEST with yourself as situations that arise out of being tempted or backsliding rarely happen by mistake. Like Pastor Donnie said, surround yourself with people who know about your struggles and will help you when you are weak. p.s Stay strong and positive and if your church does not have a deliverance ministry please look for a church that does deliverance and get delivered, i'm not saying leave your church. God bless you and keep you always. Joy

GOD is GOOD

This homosexuality issue has been a great problem for teenager at my school. Eventhough they struggle accepting that homosexuality is wrong, it only takes the special grace of GOD to send a Man like Donnie to stand and confest that it's wrong and we Christains need to stand in the gap and pray for the demon to get behind the children of GOD. WE CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS.

We need 2 keep on praying 4 the servant OF GOD (DONNIE) and encourage him to carray on being faithfull towards GOD and HE WOULD BE REWARDED.

Lots of Love Habeta
