Kirk Franklin and Bishop T D Jakes records '9-1-1'

THE TWO biggest selling figures in contemporary gospel music, Kirk Franklin and Bishop T D Jakes, have recorded a response to the September 11 terrorist attacks. The single, "9-1-1" (America's emergency phone number), is currently being circulated to American radio as a promotion to the release of the album 'The Rebirth Of Kirk Franklin', due early next year from Gospel Centric Records. Franklin spoke about the origins of the spoken word project which puts the two churchmen over a hip hop beat, "I was set to go to Los Angeles that day and instead spent the rest of the day in my pyjamas glued to the TV. It made me reflect on everything social, political, spiritual and personal. More than anything, I just wanted to be a very great reflective light, to let people know that God is still in control."
