Matt Maher writes in Billboard about illegal downloading
SINGER/SONGWRITER and worship leader Matt Maher has written a major piece in
American trade magazine Billboard about the need for the Church to
involve itself in educating the youth about the morality of illegal
downloading. Billboard published the article What Would Jesus
Download? in its April 19th issue. Maher wrote, "If this problem we
face is not a legal one but a moral one, why haven't any of the
record labels worked with the Church? An unlikely partnership, sure,
but a needed one. The entertainment industry as a whole should look
at this from a 'common good' perspective, because music was just the
beginning; film and TV are already affected. The way people receive
information is rapidly changing and two gigantic forces - the
entertainment industry and the Church - are standing by unsure of
what to do about it. In the meantime, we have an entire generation of
young people growing up without any understanding of intellectual
property and as a result no real respect for it. The record companies
and the Church missed an opportunity to speak to this 10 years ago.
Litigation will not solve it. But inspiring people to help be a
contributing member of the human family will." ![]()
