That's the finding of new research which found practising Christians said they were not happy with the ethics of high street banks and almost two out of three said they like the idea of a faith-based alternative. The Beijing Olympics organising committee has denied published reports that athletes will be banned from bringing bibles with them into the olympic village. Li Zhanjun, the director of the Bejing Olympics media centre stated the Bible ban was an "international distortion of the truth". Zimbabwe's second largest city, Bulawayo, is set to run out of water, the British relief agency tearfund reports. Four out of the five resevoirs that supply the city of 1.5 million have run dry, and the government has refused to come to the people's aid unless the opposition led Bulawayo city council turns over the city's water department to the control of the Zimbabwe National water authority. 'Churches in Blawayo' an interfaith alliance, has stepped in with the support of the city by setting up water tanks at churches to supply patable water fot the city's residents: a solution that observers see as too little too late.

Six US television evangelists are under investigation by a US senate commitee for allagedly abusing thier tax-exempt status to fund lavish lifestyles that include mansions, jets, Rolls Royces and £12,000 toilet seats. Senator Grassley said "I don't want to conclude that there's a problem, but i have an obligation to donors and the taxpayers to fing out more. People who donated should have thier money spent as intended and in adherance to the tax code"

The number of women ordinands has outnumbered men for the first time ever in the Church Of England, new statisticts have revealed. According to official figures, there were 478 new clergy ordained in 2006, down from 505 new ordinands in 2005, but up from 469 in 2004. But for the first time ever more women (244) were ordained than men (234) in 2006, although the majority of these women were ordained to non-stipendiary ministry.

Babies born by caesarean section are 20% more likely to become insulin dependant diabetics in childhood, say researchers. Although the reason for the link is not clear, scientists believe exposure to hospital bacteria may be involved. Childhood infections, along with genetics, are already known to play an important role in the development of type 1 diabetes.

A Christian development agency is calling for Western nations to repay thier "Carbon debt to the developing world" to help poorer countries tackle global warming. In a new report by Christian Aid, the annual bill for developed countries to help emerging nations cut greenhouse gasses and focus on sustainable development would run into billions of pounds. It estimates that the cost for the UK could come to at least £25 billion, while the EU would have to pay £164 billion and the US £198 billion, having used an economic framework by American climate think tank EcoEquity to reach these figures.

Female migraine sufferers are at a significantly lower risk of breast cancer, a study published today suggests. Research has shown that women with a history of the severe, recurrent headaches have a 30 per cent lower risk of breast cancer compared to women who do not suffer such attacks. The study, by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, looked at more than 3,000 women from the region.

And half of those who have been married for 20 years or more would happily get by without any at all.
The statistics may sound like an insult to their husbands. But there is some good news for men – 72 per cent of wives still fancy their partners, giving them seven out of ten or higher on the scale of sexual attractiveness.
Nor does the figure diminish with age. More than half of those who have been married for 20 years agree.

New car sales fell last month by the biggest year on year margin for almost 18 years, official figures out today were expected to show. New registrations in October 2008 dipped by as much as 25 per cent compared with October 2007, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders was expected to announce. New mothers who do not get enough sleep are less likely to get their figures back quickly, researchers say.
They have discovered a crucial link between sleep deprivation and the inability to lose those extra pounds once the baby has arrived.
An extra two hours a night can make a major difference, say the researchers, who suggest lack of sleep triggers hormonal changes which make women hungrier.
