Shane Barnard and Shane Everett have been turning out albums together for nearly 10 years but this could easily be their best one. Their brand of acoustic guitar-based rock is filled out nicely with a strong band and full use is made of their many talents throughout the album. From the banjo intro to "Liberty" which quickly leads to the full bore chorus complete with Hammond organ the style never quite remains the same. "Your Love" is more power ballad, with a piano line that has a bit of a Eoghan Heaslip feel to it, and is followed by a much more reflective "Without You" before ramping up again with "Future Vision". These kinds of mood changes continue throughout the album but are skilfully handled so that they complement each other and keep the listener interested and enable the music to still feel fresh after a bout of repeat play. Lyrically the album looks at who God is, how he affects our lives and how this results in worship to God and does so without being trite - in particular "Grace Is Sufficient" which looks at how we can handle the really hard situations in our lives. Complementing this is some inventive arrangements and the strong, if sometimes rather breathy, vocals resulting in a well rounded album.

Product Description

Shane & Shane have cemented their status as one of contemporary Christian music’s most consistent, compelling and successful groups for nearly a decade.

After a brief hiatus from recording, Shane Barnard and Shane Everett have returned to the studio with two years’ worth of new material, all self-written and self-produced.

The Shanes, now both married with children, created this latest record through the lens of fatherhood and community. In fact, Barnard penned the title track – a poignant letter from daddy to daughter – a week before his daughter Lucy was born.

Rarely does worship sound so personal and passionate as when these two college friends sit down and start putting scriptures to song.

The pure emotion of their harmonic tribute to heaven gushes with each note. Even by their own standards, Shane & Shane are buoyantly enthusiastic.

Having also recently assumed the role of worship pastors at their local church, The One You Need additionally contains songs intended to minister to those hurting around them.
