It's always a happy Cross Rhythms task to identify a new act at the start of their career and declare them to be "special" with that elusive something that will connect with people wherever they're heard. Midlands-based trio Speak, Brother are now gigging all over and this, one studio track and two live recordings made at the Blue Bistro, are being offered for free on the Noisetrade website. "Dry Bones" isn't the old spiritual but a slow, moody original with a mass vocal chorus and a fine, passionate lead vocal. Musically, it's folk-tinged pop rock without really sounding like any other band. And that's what makes Speak, Brother such an exciting prospect for the future.
