Apparently a late-starter, Atlanta-based Stephanie here releases her debut album. Actually, it was released back in 2007 in the States. Under the direction of Eric Copeland (clearly not the one from Black Dice), the singer/songwriter has recorded a very professional debut though one which never completely overcomes the inherent cheesiness of the material and arrangements. Having said that, Stephanie is a competent lyricist whose name appears under every track - alone on more than half - and she possesses quite the right voice for her subject matter. The album has a clear theme, which if the title isn't communicating well enough the white picket fence that dominates the cover illustration will definitely handle. It's all about suburban motherhood, and you'll find the opening trio of songs saturated with that. On the fourth the style is greeted by worship for a comfortable but dull compound. Still, "Moments Of Grace", probably for being the best showcase of Mrs Newton's interests, was a good choice for the single. There is a touch of musical stew, with a gospel effort on "Holding Onto You", plus some Lou Fellingham-like delivery for the pop-rock "Turn It Around".
