There's not much chance you haven't noticed the release of Delirious?'s debut single. From its well documented inspiration in the Irish troubles, Martin Smith's anthemic song has wider spiritual connotations which cannot be missed by a mainstream audience. "Only God can save our nation now" is a clear enough refrain and with its hallelujah choruses. Delirious? haven't sold out for the mass market. This has the musical chops and inspirational feel to play in the same ballpark as something like "Whole Of The Moon". The four track single gives you three mixes of "WRD". the best of which is the longer album version. Andy Pierce and Delirious? have given this a BIG sound! The other song. Stuart Garrard's "Absolutely Absolute", is a catchy slab of guitar-based Brit pop with the required amount of '60s influences -phased backing and wall of sound so typical of last year's crop of Ocean Colour Scene. Shed 7 et al. With a new album, "King Of Fools', on the way. this is a taste of things to come.
