The original funky drummer and producer extraordinaire Bill Maxwell gives Helen another delicious set of R&B pop-rock (and on "Doxology" even Latin jazz) grooves which perfectly suit the gospel diva's rich, smouldering voice. With some Koinonia and the Crusaders in tow laying down the accompaniments and with Helen singing with swoopingly soulful assurance it's all top class stuff. With mainstream companies both here and in the States pushing to break tracks in the secular marketplace it may be a bit churlish for me to observe that one or two of the ballads were more MOR than R&B. If you like contemporary R&B you'll like this.
