A compilation of oldies from arguably Christian music’s finest guitarist (although I can hear some Bryn Haworth and Glenn Kaiser fans muttering already!). 11 of the 15 tracks here are from the classic trilogy of albums from 1980 to 1982, ‘Ph’lip Side’, ‘Town To Town’ and ‘Play Thru Me’, and it took this compilation to remind me just how good those three releases were. As for the other four songs, they date from 1995-97 and they aren’t as good. No doubt for contractual reasons examples of stuff from the 1970s and his later 1980s output, especially the Beatle-esque “Sunday’s Child”, are missing and there’s no sign of John Perry’s “Be In My Heart” either; so until Phil gets the publishing rights to his entire back catalogue, a definitive Keaggy “greatest” package will have to wait. Until then, this is worth buying for the 1980-82 tracks alone, especially if the double CD set of those three albums issued in 1991 passed you by, or your vinyl is past its best.
