Mrs Marvin Winans has slowly but surely risen up the fame ladder as this recent US gospel chart topper can only add to her reputation as one of the most soulful divas on the whole African American church scene. Just catch that blistering opener “Shake Yourself Loose” where a small choir (surely larger than the vocalists credited) and a trundlingly funky band give her the perfect groove to holler for Jesus. If you’re after a blast of real soul music, this is one you’ve got to hear.
