Yolanda is an echo of an echo of the school of traditional, old time black church singing preachers. Her performance often touches base with the honoured traditions of the genre, demonstrating all the fire and passion you might expect. The choir backup singers and musicians stay well in the background, allowing the artist's power and charisma plenty of room to move. Although it's a high energy performance, Yolanda floats gently through the ballads and handles the worship material sensitively. The highlight is a driving performance of "Through The Storm" an exhibition of voice and emotion control that's exemplary. An enjoyable hour, this is a very good artist, but the "Greatest singer since Aretha Franklin" claim is overdoing it a bit, don't you think?
