US gospel star Yolanda Adams has recently signed to Columbia Records and predictably this has brought on a 'best of' collection from the diva's eight year stint with Elektra Records. The bulk of the songs on this collection are from her multi-award winning album 'Mountain High..Valley Low' and her Atlantic release 'Day By Day' (Elektra Records was absorbed into Atlantic Records in a label reshuffle in 2004). Considered by many as the first lady of modern gospel, Yolanda opens with "Victory", an upbeat song full of energy and Yolanda's passionate, melismatic vocals shine through. The rest of the album is mainly filled with more down tempo songs, but the passion in Yolanda's vocals continues throughout, with her voice infusing every song with emotional and spiritual weight. An impressive showcase of a great vocal talent.
