With Word purchasing Tribute Records to get their hands on Yolanda, one of gospel's hottest properties, it's not surprising that the singer's first two albums have now been given another airing. When Cross Rhythms reviewed 'Through The Storm' as an import back in 1991 we spoke about Yolanda singing "subdued 3-in-the-moming music" but also able to "whoop and holler in classic church-wrecking style". This mix of slinky sophistication, provided by jazz keyboard man/producer Ben Tankard and raw gospel power is an electrifying combination with the ballad "I'm Free" and "The Only Way" (the latter produced by Take 6's Mervyn Warren) being particularly outstanding.
