The vintage of a 1963 Warres port, the class and power of a Ferrari GTO, the effortless grace and precision of Alan Shearer (back home where he belongs!). Where in British CCM do you turn for all these qualities and more? It has to be Martyn Joseph. To my mind he is the best Christian songwriter this side of the pond. How he wrote 'Have An Angel Walk With Her' is beyond me. How do you paint such a beautifully vivid picture of honour and injustice as "The Ballad Of Richard Lewis"? There is another version of "Treasure The Questions" on here too, which, to my mind, is the best yet. There is some excellent instrumentation on this album, care of a bevy of talented chaps (and chapesses!) including some stunning interplay between cello and saxophone thanks to Harry Napier and Mike Haughton, respectively. I seem to have gained a reputation for "unjust criticisms" with regard to recording quality in these pages, so all I'll say is what Martyn makes a point of admitting in the sleevenotes, that this album was recorded in his loft, and it shows. A great set of songs that deserve full production.
