It's been interesting to watch the progress of this seven volume Best Of collection. As the series has gone on there have been less previously unreleased bonus tracks coming out compared to the first few volumes and also less of the well known songs from major projects. On 'Emancipator' two interesting tracks which have never been on CD before have been unearthed for the bonus track section. First there's a studio recording of Randy and a band working on a Christianised version of the folk song "He Is A Friend Of Mine" with Larry adding harmonies. Secondly, we also find the duo together live in Canada in 1980 having great fun as they sing "I Love You" as a duet. Elsewhere 'Emancipator' is similar to the last few volumes in the series: a nice compilation of good tracks from good albums, many of them not regarded as among Larry's very best ('The Outlaw' excepted) but in many cases they are good songs in anyone's book. Worth checking out if you like your singer/songwriters or want to collect up a lot of decent Larry songs from less celebrated projects without splashing out on all of Larry's gargantuan back catalogue.
