Hughie Lawrence, Beresford Dawkins and Andrej Iwanowski take a look at the way in which Christians are stepping into club culture.
Continued from page 1
Andrzej Iwanowski:
"A Christian multimedia event
comprises of where Christian bands and Christian DJs are performing
either or both Christian/secular music or acts etc, in an attempt to
provide a valid form of entertainment and Christian witness."
Steve Baker of Abundant:
"It is an event which
communicates something of the nature of God and the values of
Christianity using a combination of both the audio and the visual."
The Temple:
"From our perspective at the Temple,
a Christian multi-media event is no different to a secular multi-media
event. The difference is that the reason we are putting on the event
to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus and not for our own benefit.
A Christian multi-media event is an event that has taken all the
modern means of technology today such as intelligent lighting, music,
video graphics, etc, and is using them in such a way to relate the
message of the Gospel to young people and to non-Christians. Let's
face facts that this generation relates to the media and we need to
use all of the modern concepts that are used in the media to relate
the Gospel to the young kids of this generation."
What is the difference between a Christian multimedia event and an alternative worship/event?
Andrzej Iwanowski:
"A Christian multimedia event
is primarily an expression of Christian witness whether directly or
indirectly. An alternative worship event tries to bridge the cultural
gap between the Church and society and is an expression of worship
through which both Christians and non-Christians can relate to God."
Steve Baker of Abundant:
"An alternative
worship event may well use multi-media as one of the mediums for
enabling worship and devotion to God, however many other mediums or
"tools" can be used beside multi-media".
The Temple:
"The difference between a Christian
multi-media event and an alternative worship event is this: A
Christian multimedia event is for the purpose of using different forms
of media presentation and to relate the Gospel to young people and to
non-Christians. In my opinion the purpose of a Christian multi-media
event is to reach out to the people who do not know God. An
alternative worship event, or a worship event as I would call it, is
an event that encourages God's people to worship and to express to God
in different ways how they feel about him. The purpose is to gather
Christians together to worship God. A Christian multi-media event is
more for the non-Christian and an alternative worship event is more
for the Christian."
