The Armour Of God: 3. The Breastplate Of Righteousness

Another essential part of the armour of God is the breastplate. In the natural the breastplate would have been very important for a Roman soldier, it protected his vital organs such as his heart, lungs and stomach; it would have also covered his back from any attack from behind. In prayer, righteousness or right living is very important. It says in Proverbs 15: 29,

“He hears the prayer of the righteous.”

God loves everyone the same but I think He has a soft spot for people who live a righteous life, as we have just read, the Bible says that God hears the prayers of people who live a right way. Therefore the breastplate is important as it protects our hearts from temptation and leading an unrighteous life. God calls us to be set apart and that starts in the heart, therefore to protect our heart with righteousness is the perfect remedy to sin and will keep our prayers in the ear of God.
