John has caught the ear of Cross Rhythms quite a bit in the past. His gone-but-not-forgotten band Escapade were once favourites on CR radio. Now the West Country-based singer/songwriter and worship leader has hooked up with bright new independent label Risen Records and produced this, a far more convincing album than his previous solo project 'Only Jesus'. Powerful rock worship which displays touches of Delirious? and Matt Redman in the surging guitar arrangements, this still sounds sufficiently fresh to avoid any direct comparison. Three songs particularly here, "Forever", "Rest In Your Arms" and "You Are God", are strong enough to get the national and even the international Church engaged in worship if they ever got to hear them. Producer Tim Roberts has done an excellent job in capturing the sweeping dynamics which make such pop rock stylings effective in our worship. Well worth searching out.
