God's Not Dead: A Light In Darkness is the third of the God's Not Dead films, releasing this year, and alongside it comes this compilation album forming its pop soundtrack. Joel Vaughn opens with "Alive In Us", which isn't hugely original as a worship track and features a rather robotic beat, but has a nice ambience and a catchy tune. "Nothing To Lose" by Mass Anthem is EDM-infused pop with an urban feel and an unusual chilled breakdown under the chorus, making the forceful statement "You are enough". Following Abigail Duhon's confident "Rebound", Matthew Parker's "Miracles" unfortunately recalls toe-curlingly cheesy holiday resort pop. Thankfully "Light The Sky" by Long Hollow Wave brings the album back on course; its soft, clean vocals are interesting and although the lyrics are nothing special it makes you want to move. "Light Up My World (ftg David Josiah)" by We Are Leo would be an awesome club tune with its fun bassline and layers of distorted vocals, and this is followed by Landry Cantrell's "Collide". Featuring the most substantial lyrics of the collection, "Collide" portrays the world in all its hopelessness, declaring that there is hope because of the resurrection of Jesus. A second offering from Matthew Parker, "Till The End Of Time", again sounds a little childish, but the chorus vocals are really fun and there is no denying this has serious earworm potential. Finally the album departs from electropop with the slower "Yours Forever" from New Hope Oahu, which sounds churchy in the extreme, ending with the guitar-led "Burn For You" by The Rock Music. The euphoric layers of guitar are stripped back during the verses, leaving the sound rather bare, but where they are present it's an uplifting close. Overall, this is a well-chosen selection of songs that fit really well together; despite the number of different contributing artists it manages to be very uniform in style, sound and vocals yet without becoming boring. And four tracks have been chosen for the Cross Rhythms playlist.
