Reviewed by Jennifer Brooker "Various" here means Matt Redman, Brian Houston, Randy Stonehill, Doug Horley, Stuart Townend, Soul Survivor, Graham Kendrick, Sue Rinaldi, Dave Bainbridge/Dave Fitzgerald and Viola. Yes, this is a sampler, but a classy one: 10 tracks from 10 albums all rated 10/10 by CR reviewers over the past couple of years. "The best of the best" says the blurb, and I wouldn't argue with that, though it does remind me of the slogan from this year's church kids' holiday club: "God is the best of the best of the best - yeah!" If you - or your church - are not yet familiar with the heady mix of foot-stomping rock, rootsy blues, Celtic ambient, funky dance, and soul-searching story-telling that is contemporary worship in Britain, this compilation is an excellent place to begin. Be warned, though: don't embark on an adventure in liberating worship if you don't want to risk actually having a life-changing encounter with the best of the best of the best!
