This three CD set has famous hymn tunes from across the denominational spectrum. There are two and a half hours of music that will be familiar to many. Both traditional and contemporary interpretations are rendered, ranging from solo to orchestral. Piano, harp, flute and guitar feature either alone or as part of an ensemble. The range of rhythm and pace are as diverse as are the hymns themselves but the general feel is one that sets an atmosphere of peace and contemplation. Unfortunately there were no organ pieces that might widen the appeal of this CD. Hymns chosen for this collection include "Rock Of Ages"; "All Glory Laud And Honour"; "O Perfect Love"; "I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say"; "All For Jesus" performed by the David Shelley Ensemble. "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart"; "O Come, O Come Immanuel"; "Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus" are performed by the Eden Symphony. "Dear Lord And Father Of Mankind" is performed on piano and cello by Eric Wyse and Paul Nelson; "In Christ There Is No East And West" is performed by Ric Blair on pipes with percussion. To those of us who recognise these famous tunes the words usually come flooding to mind and if not familiar, are still pleasant melodies that can be easily learnt. In case you can't remember the words they are all on a booklet inside the box!
