It was in 1996 that my esteemed editor, Tony Cummings, took a trip to Sudan and saw first hand the terrible suffering of the people there. Stirred by God to do something to make a difference, on his return home he began to contact artists with an invitation for them to donate tracks for a charity album to raise money for those suffering. It's a credit to Tony's tenacity that this album is now released with the support of Christian Solidarity Worldwide, through whom the proceeds will reach those who need them. The 15 songs are top quality. There are some exclusives like a fresh mix of the Tribe tune "I'm On My Way To Zion" and a new track from Secret Archives Of The Vatican who are perfect for this album with their love of incorporating ethnic sounds into their music. Here "Down To The River" includes some samples of Sudanese music. Glenn Kaiser provides the title track and Psalmistry offer a remix of "Live" whilst DNA Algorithm, Nuffsed and Viola all hold their own. Personal highlights include Tony Loeffler's classic song "Finish Line" and the Culture Vulture track "Revival For Survival" reworking of a Michael Anderson cut. Scottish favourites The Electrics and Curam are both featured along with London based singer Catherine Francis. The dance music of Minds Of Men rubs shoulders with the acoustic Faith Rising and it has to be said that when it comes to diversity, this album is more than eclectic! Weirdest moment? Former Motown diva Brenda Holloway, now a Christian, giving us a gospel rendition of R&B classic "You've Made Me So Very Happy". Space doesn't permit me to tell you the bizarre circumstances under which Tony was given that track! Go on, shell out and help those who need it and enjoy a pile of quality tracks!
