As I mentioned in Time Tunnels last issue, it's now 10 years since Word began to distribute Hosanna! Music product to the UK, and in some ways things have come a long way since then. Production was always good, but new advances in technology have made it even better. In some ways, however, things haven't changed' the style of music is still simple (some may say simplistic), the words are still soundly Scripture-based and occasionally the worship leader is rather too intrusive for my sensitive ears. This latest offering from Mobile is subtitled Acoustic Praise: Intimate Worship' and is a Who's Who of Integrity's P&W roster: Paul Baloche, Chris Christensen, Lynn DeShazo, Gary Sadler, Billy Funk, Marty Nystrom, Bob Fills, Darrell Evans, David Baroni, along with a few others who I admit I've not heard of before. The standard of songwriting varies, although Lynn DeShazo, Bob Fitts and Gary Sadler can be relied upon to come up with the goods and "Your Spirit Is Drawing Me" is another Nystrom cracker to go with his oldie-but-goodie "As The Deer". A curate's egg of an album, but there are more good bits than bad.
