No doubt there will be some sensitive souls in the churches who find the marketing of worship music in the language of Tesco with the sleeve shouting "50 Full Tracks RRP £7.99" and "Includes £24 Worth Of Vouchers" but as I write this compilation is the top selling album in the UK's Christian bookshops, clearly demonstrating that Christian CD buyers are definitely becoming more and more price conscious. The next thing to do is to allay suspicions that 'The Big Worship Box Set' is one of those dredges of old and dodgy recordings that in the past Kingsway Music have sometimes indulged in, This is largely top rate stuff mostly of recent vintage. So you get plenty of songs and original recordings by Matt Redman, Dave Bilbrough, Stuart Townend, Noel Richards, Robert Critchley, Paul Oakley and others. Every now and again you get a lifeless cover (eg, Martin Smith's "Lord You Have My Heart") while the occasional pre-'90s recordings (Dave Bilbrough's live rendition of "Abba Father") don't stand up too well amongst all the slick pop rock production. But at 50 songs for £7.99 you can forgive them a few duds.
