A well designed, artistic sleeve, leads the eye to an impressive list of acts from the world of American CCM (Michael Tait, Todd Agnew, Paul Colman, Ginny Owens, GlassByrd, Jason Ingram, Jill Paquett) plus a couple of new name singers (Cherrie Adams and Leeland Mooring). All 12 tracks are expertly produced by Andrew Thompson and, like it claims on the sleeve, "offer modern arrangements to traditional hymns." There is careful consideration not to detract from the original lyrics and as suggested there the bridge between "...the foundational theology expressed in our greatest hymns with a more modern musical approach." Although well enhanced with guitar chords etc I have to say that often the style is repetitive and the arrangements stylised. "Savior, Like A Shepherd Lead Us" and "Be Thou My Vision" offer momentary change, with a more rocky style and a contemplative take respectively. But boasting such well vocal talents there is a lack of individuality in the renditions. Still, if you are after some modern arrangements of hymn classics you may find this of interest.
