US contemporary worship continues to evolve rather differently to the British scene, so a collection like 'Empty Me' gives at least some opportunity to keep abreast of developments at the rock end of the spectrum, even if there's only slim chance of actually encountering the artists involved over on this side of the pond. It's no particular surprise that they're playing some of the well known tracks by British songwriters - Kutless pitch in with a pretty explosive rendition of Redman's "Better Is One Day" and Jeremy Camp's version of "Here I Am To Worship" is also included (who hasn't done that one?). Very familiar too is "Lord Reign In Me", performed here by Ryan Smith. If I'd been asked who was singing "Remember", I'd never have guessed it was the OC Supertones: they've mellowed - what became of the ska/punk sound? This seems to be an album with two title tracks - the first is by Telecast (echoes of George Harrison or John Lennon perhaps), and the second features a growling Jeremy Camp sounding uncannily like Mac Powell (Third Day). Tony Terusa's "Because" is decidedly weak by comparison, but the rest rates as more than adequate.
