I don't remember upsetting Mr Cummings! On the other hand, maybe it's a compliment that I was asked to review 20 hymns sung in Welsh. I'll go for the latter. Although I've little idea what they are on about, there's no denying the power of this music. Having a Welsh Mum-in-law, and having occasionally heard this type of singing in the Rhondda, there's a tremendous "soul" in the sound. Various choral combos here, some tunes are familiar, eg, "Finlandia", "Cwm Rhondda", the overall effect is moving and stimulating. Fine soloists sprinkled throughout. Have to say, I'm glad this came. Please Lord, don't let great hymn-singing ever die.
