If you weren't impressed by the repackaging of dc Talk's seminal 'Jesus Freak' album in an Anniversary Edition, maybe this 2006 release will encourage you to shell out. A simple idea getting the Gotee roster of artists (topped up with a few non-Gotee acts) to perform the songs from 'Jesus Freak' demonstrate several things, the most emphatic being that that 1995 album was truly an exceptional batch of songs and whether you are listening to the plaintive social comment of "Colored People", the Charlie Peacock-penned classic "In The Light" or the bold, proud declaration of the title track, the hooks still bite home. There is lots of invention here, try Paul Wright and Ayiesha Woods performing "Just You And Me" or StorySide:B turning "In The Light" into something Creed might have recorded. My personal favourites include The Showdown's hard music recasting of "So Help Me God", 4th Avenue Jones' take on "Jesus Freak" and Family Force 5's crunk rock transformation of "Mind's Eye". Definitely an album worth investigating.
