This is a collection of gospel tracks performed by 10 of the foremost American black female vocalists/groups, each picked from existing EMI or Sparrow recordings. While the majority of tracks date to 2006 or '07, a couple go back to the mid 1990s (and one was composed as long ago as the mid-'70s). What the album cover fails to tell is that this is an inspirational compilation, containing tender, unhurried melodies - the only track that is remotely upbeat being Keirra "Kiki" Sheard's "No Never". The rest are delightfully ear-catching ballad-types, each delivered by gospel tones of undoubtable prowess and sensitivity. Lashaun Pace shares a touching testimony in her whispering "For My Good". Darlene McCoy equally hits home with her intimate "I Adore You". This track, like all the others, is personal, faith-building and genuinely impacting. If you're moved by gospel balladry this compilation is for you.
