Before Grand Master Flash, before Eric B and Rakim the granddaddy of them all and true pioneer of hip-hop is one Kurtis Blow. Hip-hop's first mainstream star Kurtis has since studied for the ministry and opened a hip-hop church and here showcases a new generation of holy hip-hop stars. Previous hip-hop compilations from the likes of Crossover church have not always been on the boil so I am extremely pleased to say that what you have here is on fire, with fresh vibrant beats competing with slick urban poetry featuring some of the most talented up and coming artists. The opening track "Crunck Wit It" from Kurtis himself sets the scene with powerful, no compromise fast flows over a stomping, in your face soundtrack. It is hard to pick standout songs as the standard is so high but TWyse with the track "Heaven" and the exquisite Canton Jones with the smooth melodies on the track "Word On The Street" press all the buttons for me. An excellent compilation.
