It is very easy in these modern days with the flood of new worship songs and choruses being presented, to forget the hymns that built up the church of old and indeed still play a major worship role in many churches today. This new series aims to address this with, on this the first CD, a selection starting from the early 18th century through to 1995 with a Stuart Townend song "How Deep The Father's Love". Mr Townend's effort sits comfortably, alongside Wesley's "Ye Servants Of God" and "Love Divine", Bliss's "Man Of Sorrows" and Newton's "Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken" amongst others. Sung in the choral style for which they were originally intended and backed with mainly piano and organ, this collection does exactly what you expect, presenting a heritage of songwriting which we could easily miss.
