Quite what it is about this CD that justifies it being marketed for mothers specifically (apart possibly from the time of year it appeared) is not clear. If generalising is permitted, then one imagines the full-blooded nature of many of the hymns included will appeal at least as much to men as to women. Perhaps it is intended to be the soft pink colour scheme and floral décor to the box, sleevenotes and discs that does the trick - but let's hope not. As regards content, the term "favourite hymns" is a fair one and certainly most of the hymns this reviewer would expect to be included from an offering with that title are there. There is also a sprinkling from a more modern repertoire. A fair amount of variety in feel and texture is achieved across the recordings, with traditional organ sounds sharing the limelight with more modern group set-ups. There is also good use of solo voices and male/female parts. The total music time is almost three hours. If hymns are your thing then you will probably have the majority of these already in your collection, but this would make a good present . . . to a mum or dad!
