This is another "does what it says on the tin" type of compilation album from Kingsway. Trouble is, it doesn't say much on the tin. No singer or musician information at all. But at least there is a good selection of songs on offer, and the writers get a deserved mention. The usual appearances of names such as Matt Redman, Tim Hughes, Stuart Townend and Chris Tomlin are all there, alongside some vintage Vineyard and Stoneleigh recordings. Some good old hymns make an appearance too, such as "How Great Thou Art" and "When I Survey". The catch is, they are all copies of arrangements that have been done before. Better. By named artists. The performances here are all decent enough, better than most of us will get live on a Sunday morning, but none really shine like many of the original recordings by the songwriters. For non-discerning consumers of worship music who like to feel they are getting value for money, this is a big bargain (advertised at under £10). And the quality of this type of product is definitely better than it was 10 years ago. But still I wonder if perhaps, instead of trudging through these three discs one at a time, time would be better spent listening to one CD by one of the previously mentioned songwriters, featuring named musicians, three times in a row?
