It’s time to give Kingsway a break. Their long-running ‘Power Praise’ series is easy to criticise for its naff brand image, its shameless plundering (and repackaging) of its back catalogue and for being outdated. (Despite its assertion that these are the “...songs and hymns of today's church,” none of the songs were written after 1998.) And yes, they have included a few dud tracks best allowed to rest in peace such as “Distant Thunder” and “Open The Doors Of Praise”. But any album which contains the definitive version of Matt Redman's “Let Everything That Has Breath”; or Martin Smith crooning on “May I Sing A Song Of Love” and Bryn Haworth playing steel guitar on “When This Passing World Is Done” isn't all that bad. So give Kingsway a break, take the album at face value and listen without prejudice. You might even find yourself joining in, which, if I'm not mistaken, is the whole point.
