It's quite satisfying when a compilation album actually does what it says on the tin. This is one of that rare breed: if you prefer hip-hop with more of a laid back exotic vibe, or would like reggae to have stronger beats and more attitude, then you should check this collection. Compiled by Christafari founding member Mark Mohr, it brings together artists from East and West coasts of the USA along with the best Jamaican talent. Knowdaverbs, Blood Brotherz, Stitchie and Coffee (from Grits) are amongst the most well known, but most of their offerings have already been heard on their own albums, and some of the tunes have been around for over five years already. Even so, the vibe is positive, the rhythms are groovy and the rhymes are uplifting. If you don't care about being bang up to date, but just want an interesting, character-full collection from this lively sub-genre, then you won't be disappointed.
