For those who remember '70s reggae with its mixture of pop cover versions (Ken Boothe's "Everything I Am", etc) and originals, here is the Christian equivalent. Several highly accomplished vocalists such as Osmond Collins, Denzil Dennis and Paula record classic worship old and new ("Shout To The Lord", "Amazing Grace", "Blessed Assurance") and some fresh compositions. Mostly it does what it says on the tin. There are exceptions: T.N.J.'s "Lord We Need You Now" has a distinct Asian flavour and Meleka's cover of "Say A Little Prayer" is neither reggae nor worship. Also, the packaging on this budget-priced album is sloppy, the sleeve fails to credit Darlene Zschech for "Shout To The Lord" and misspells Jordan as Jordon. In truth, 'Reggae Sunday Service''s approach is quite conservative and is more likely to appeal to middle-aged West Indians who like their "lovers rock" style reggae crooners. But it is done with considerable competence.
