This is an interesting concept: provide five backing tracks to various rappers and singers and see what rhymes and tunes they come up with. There's a fair amount of variation, but not enough to make a great album. You can't help but smile and feel all summery when you first hear these overtly Caribbean styles fused with urban hip-hop, and the lyrical content (when you can understand it) also uplifts. But after hearing the same backing track for the fourth time in a row, you reach for the eject button instinctively. That's a shame, because the talent on display here is impressive, if a little quirky. Guys like Monty G, Mighty One, Avalanchee and Mann-a-warr can rap so fast it's difficult to keep up with what they're saying, or maybe it's just I'm not hip to patois delivery. Anyway, a Bahamian take on Jamaican dance-hall fused with hip-hop styles is always going to be interesting, and despite it's limitations, reggae and rap fans will find plenty to enjoy.
