Any album, even a 30 song double one, claiming to be "30 of the year's top Southern gospel artists and songs" is bound to have some omissions but this is a pretty impressive sampler with the Cathedrals, Kingsmen, Gaither Vocal Band, Talley Trio, Gold City and many more. As we've observed before, the homespun harmonies, rumbling bass leads and conservative sensibilities of Southern gospel is an acquired taste but clearly our British country cousins are acquiring it, if the phenomenal sales of the Gaither videos are anything to go by. If you've heard a bit of Southern gospel and want to hear more, this selection is the perfect place to start.
