If you're into secular R&B and you want to catch a bit of history, this 24-track compilation of slow and bluesily soulful tracks from Los Angeles Kent Records archives, lovingly compiled by those buffs at Ace, will have you salivating. There's stuff from hitmakers (BB King and Jimmy Holiday) and stuff from no-hit obscurities (Terry & The Tyrants, Tammi Young, etc). The reason for its inclusion in Cross Rhythms is that it features a gritty track from gospel quartet The Angels Of Joy ("Mr President", an intriguing plea to Mr Nixon to get his finger out!) and cuts from R&B singers Mary Love and The Mighty Hannibal who subsequently returned to their gospel roots. A fascinating slice of R&B history.
