From the sublime to the ridiculous! The juggernaut that is the collaboration between Integrity and Time Life keeps rolling on! Interestingly when I looked at Time Life’s website another of the ‘Songs 4 Worship’ series was one of the featured products right next to a Beavis And Butthead DVD! I don’t know what the deal is here – are these for non-church types wanting to sample what us Christians are into? I hope not because with the exception of one Ron Kenoly tune and an Alvin Slaughter number this double-CD set is forgettable. Most of the contributions from the Women Of Faith Singers and The Integrity Worship Singers could have been orchestrated for American TV in the ‘70s. Where is the radical alternative to the mediocrity of the world? Where are the infectious beats and melodies that you can’t keep out of your head for the rest of the day? With the exception of the two artists mentioned you’ll not find anything here to reward you for the money. There are some good standards here but if you love worship music like I do you’ll have much better arrangements and recordings of them in your collection already.
