An intriguing compilation of various American R&B gospel acts. We have heard of some of them this side of the pond. Dana Divine is known on the UK gospel scene, and Kaize Adams has been interviewed by CR's Tony Cummings, with his single "So Pure" featuring here. AMG have definitely gone the ballad route with 'Soul Food' and they've made some choice selections along the way. From the gentle bubble of Dana Divine's "He'll Never Change" the pace and vibe is set. "Quality Time" has a good Toni Braxton feel to its lead vocal, Harold B breaks loose with some social commentary on "Walk On By". Later on in the CD God's Choice spins a D'angelo style slab of gospel keys for his track "Christian Lady" and Michael Hart lends more than a tinge of the man Vandross to all of his three offerings. With the compilation's heavy use of easy grooves, subtle lead lines and Rhodes piano you might not be playing this at your block's summer barbeque but it's always good to have quality tracks to chill to.
