Sound Of Praise features the gospel-ishious worship leading of Israel Houghton, Gary Oliver, Bishop Leonard S Scott, Chris Byrd and Pastor GF Watkins. The live album was recorded at the Powerhouse Christian Center in Katy, TX, and clearly has been made to showcase the varying styles and abilities of these five worship leaders. This is a mostly ordinary gospel CD. If you are already a gospel fan with several records, I’m not sure if there is any benefit in buying this disc, other than to sample a variety of worship leaders in a live setting. I didn’t really feel the electricity of the congregation. I did get a kick out of worship leader Gary Oliver as he readied the congregation for some good clean gospel fun on “Holy, Holy, Holy” with the statement: “Somebody put your hand on your belly and shout Holy!” Overall, the ‘Sound Of Praise’ isn’t going to get you out of your seat much.
