An intriguing compilation which brings together a host of artists from the American folk scene of the '60s - Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, the Weavers - and the country and bluegrass world - the Stanley Brothers, Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, Country Gentlemen. It's all a bit selfconscious and stilted but on the best moments, like Maybelle Carter With The New Lost City Ramblers running through "The Old Gospel Ship" or the Rooftop Singers (yep, the "Walk Right In" '60s hitmakers) singing "Ezekiel Saw The Wheel", the effect is charming. Shame they couldn't have managed a sleevenote.
